It’s not every day you hear a debut single written and performed by a band with a combined age barely scraping 50, but The Radio Addicts aren’t here to wait their turn. “Scroll My Life Away” is raw, loud, messy in all the right places, and packed with that beautiful, youthful urgency that reminds you why people fall in love with music in the first place.
Clocking in at 3 minutes and 40 seconds, their first ever release thrashes with a punked-up energy that echoes Bolton icons Buzzcocks, sprinkled with the spiky defiance of early Liam Gallagher. At the centre of it all is frontman Luke, snarling vocals and all, doing his best Johnny Rotten-meets-Robbie Williams impression with a grin and a guitar. This is not polished. But it’s not supposed to be. It’s the sound of four kids with instruments, ideas, and absolutely no interest in waiting for permission.
Lyrically, “Scroll My Life Away” hits a clever self-aware note – a tongue-in-cheek critique of modern attention spans and screen addiction, wrapped in riffs that sound like they were written in a bedroom and tested out in school assembly the next morning. And yet, somehow, the message lands. Maybe it’s because it’s coming from kids who know the habit first-hand, or maybe it’s because they’re saying it while giving everything to make sure we listen.
What makes this release more than just a novelty is the buzz already behind it. The single’s picked up radio play on both sides of the Atlantic, racked up hundreds of thousands of Instagram views, and even got them a slot at Glaston-Bury and invites to festivals across the UK. Luke’s already shared a stage with The Lottery Winners, who’ve been backing the band from early on – and even pinched some of their merch.
Sure, there are rough edges – but The Radio Addicts are learning in real time, and “Scroll My Life Away” proves they’ve already nailed the first lesson: make people feel something. With a vinyl EP on the horizon and more gigs to come, don’t be surprised if these kids go from school uniforms to festival slots before they hit 16.
