Some bands write songs. Others write lifelines. With “have you ever had a broken heart?”, senses offer something closer to the latter – a sweeping, shimmering anthem that aches with sincerity and glows with catharsis.
Fresh from their Coventry roots and now writing between the UK and Germany, senses return with a single that marks the start of their next chapter: expansive, emotional, and completely on their terms. Taken from their upcoming second album all the heavens, this track captures the moment after heartbreak when words fail – and music has to do the talking.
Built on crisp live drums and resonant, reverb-drenched guitars, this is their most emotionally charged work yet. Fans of Ride, Spacemen 3, or even classic torchbearers like Glen Campbell will feel right at home here – this is shoegaze with a songwriter’s soul. The chorus line “never found the words to say” becomes the mission statement – a song that speaks when speech isn’t enough.
There’s a lot to love about the sonic textures alone. Recorded at Magic Garden Studio with Gavin Monaghan (The Blinders, Editors) and mastered by Graeme Lynch (Blossoms, The Coral), the production glows without overwhelming the rawness. The guitars shimmer, the vocals float, and there’s a sense of space that invites you to feel every beat, every breath.
But what makes this release special is what comes with it. Not only is there a stunning remix by Andy Bell (of Ride, Oasis, and Mantra of the Cosmos), but Bell also plays on the track – a dream come true for the band, who cite Ride as one of their biggest inspirations. His remix takes the tune into darker, dreamier territory – shifting the key from major to minor, adding basslines and programmed beats to create an 8-minute odyssey that’s as meditative as it is mesmerising.
The single is also getting the love it deserves with a limited-edition neon green vinyl pressing – only 50 copies worldwide, featuring the original, the remix, and two more exclusive cuts. A physical artefact of the emotional resonance this song carries.
With their debut album Little Pictures Without Sound hitting No. 5 on the iTunes Alternative Chart, senses could have played it safe. Instead, they’ve leaned in deeper – crafting music that’s more honest, more atmospheric, and more them than ever before. DIY in spirit but ambitious in execution, this is a band forging their own path with heart, head, and harmony.
