Pomona Park – ‘Do Not Disturb’ Review

Manchester’s indie-pop outfit Pomona Park are steadily becoming one of the North West’s most promising new exports. With a knack for writing instantly catchy choruses wrapped around tender, coming-of-age lyricism, their latest single Do Not Disturb sees the band doubling down on what they do best, blending emotional vulnerability with a radio-ready sheen.

Hot off the back of their previous single Overdrive, which impressively cracked the UK Top 100, the band has wasted no time in keeping momentum alive. Do Not Disturb has already started to make noise, picking up spins from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, as well as reaching audiences across the Atlantic with early U.S. airplay. For a band still early in their journey, this is a strong sign they’re resonating far beyond their local circuit.

Built around crisp production from Alex Quinn and a polished master by Graeme Lynch (Two Zero Nine Mastering), Do Not Disturb glows with tight instrumentation and infectious hooks. The track carries the same lyrical weight as early Sam Fender, personal, observational, and emotionally open, but channels it through a more pop-leaning, upbeat filter. Chris Smith’s vocal performance remains a standout: conversational yet melodic, with just the right amount of northern bite.

Lyrically, the single tackles the moment of emotional withdrawal, the desire to retreat and protect yourself when everything around you feels overwhelming. It’s not anthemic in the hands-in-the-air sense, but it is universal. The chorus lands like a sigh, perfectly encapsulating that quiet burnout so many young people are living through.

What makes Pomona Park click is their chemistry. There’s a lived-in feel to the way the guitars, bass and drums lock in, likely helped by the fact the band began as a group of mates finding their rhythm post-lockdown. From 2022’s Overdrink to now, there’s been clear sonic growth, with each track sounding tighter and more intentional. Yet they’ve managed to keep their youthful charm intact.

With a strong run of singles under their belt and headline shows at venues like Gulliver’s and Lion’s Den already sold out, the band’s following continues to grow. Their next gig at Off The Square (July 18) promises to be another highlight, and with Do Not Disturb now added to their arsenal, fans can expect a live set that’s as emotionally sharp as it is sonically satisfying.

Looking ahead, Pomona Park are gearing up for a big 2025, with upcoming single Lifeline on the horizon and more live dates to come. If Do Not Disturb is anything to go by, they’re not just here to ride a wave — they’re building their own.
