REVIEW: Andrew Cushin – New World Blazing

A wall-of-sound juggernaut from Newcastle’s indie poet, New World Blazing is a thunderous, full-throttle coming-of-age moment for Andrew Cushin.

Backed by the support of legends like Noel Gallagher and Sam Fender, Cushin’s name already rings out in industry circles. But this track isn’t here to nod politely to co-signs, it’s here to blow the roof off. Where previous releases leaned into acoustic roots and quiet reflection, New World Blazing is a middle-finger to hesitation, a raucous declaration of intent delivered with spit, sweat and sincerity.

From the get-go, it hits like a freight train. Producer Gareth Nuttall (The K’s, Lottery Winners) helps dial up the volume and weight, pushing Cushin’s sound to its most electrified and anthemic yet. The riff feels born to echo through festival fields, all swagger and scuffed denim, while the rhythm section drives forward like it’s running late for a revolution.

Lyrically, it’s defiant and raw, a tightrope walk between vulnerability and steel. Cushin speaks from the shoulders of working-class dreamers, refusing to let his roots define his ceiling:
“I’ve been down / but I won’t be drowned” feels less like a lyric and more like a tattoo. It’s not polished for radio, it’s carved from lived experience — and that’s what hits hardest.

What makes New World Blazing land so powerfully is that it doesn’t just sound big, it feels big. There’s an urgency in every beat, a sense that this is a young man fighting for every word he gets to sing. Whether he’s playing a sold-out Brudenell or lacing up for his North American tour, you get the feeling this song is going to follow him everywhere.

For fans of Sam Fender’s grit, The K’s power-pop bounce, and Noel’s sky-reaching choruses, this is a natural addition to the canon. But Cushin is doing more than emulating, he’s carving out his own path now, welding indie-rock explosiveness with unfiltered emotion. And he’s just getting started.

This one belongs on your “Break the Speed Limit” playlist — it’s indie with heart, heat, and a whole lot of fight.
Catch him on tour this May and June — New World Blazing is best heard loud, live, and with your mates shouting every word back.
