As the week winds down, we’re spotlighting the standout releases featured on our playlist. From euphoria-fuelled rock anthems to raw punk breakdowns and introspective indie gems, these tracks represent the best in new music. Let’s dive into the highlights:

The Amazons – “My Blood”

The Amazons roar into 2025 with their electrifying single “My Blood.” Teaming up with Royal Blood, this track previews their highly anticipated album 21st Century Fiction, set to drop May 9th.

Produced by Mike Kerr and featuring Ben Thatcher on drums, “My Blood” blends soaring riffs with introspective lyrics. Lead singer Matt Thomson describes the track as a tribute to resilience: “With age comes responsibilities and reasons to quit, but ‘My Blood’ explores that deep, irrational force that keeps us pushing forward.”

The Amazons continue to redefine rock with a bold new sound that balances raw aggression and introspection. Get ready to see them dominate festival stages this year as they kick off their global tour.

PUP – “Paranoid”

Toronto punk powerhouse PUP has returned with “Paranoid,” their first release since 2022’s critically acclaimed THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND. Produced by John Congleton, this track is an explosive, humorous exploration of internal chaos.

Frontman Stefan Babcock says, “The breakdown 1:45 in is my favorite part. It’s heavy, intense, and kind of funny—a juxtaposition that makes it work. Plus, Nestor plays the melody from ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ on bass during the heaviest moment, which cracks me up every time.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux, is a clever nod to rock band merch culture and features real PUP fans in a whirlwind of chaotic energy.

PUP also launched their digital zine, MORE BAD STUFF – A PUPTHEBAND Substack, where they’ll share unreleased songs, comics, and tour stories. It’s punk rock heaven for fans.

Prima Queen – “The Prize”

Prima Queen continues their rise with “The Prize,” the title track from their upcoming debut album, due April 25th via Submarine Cat Records. Produced by Steph Marziano, the song is a shimmering indie-pop anthem inspired by the radical power of friendship.

The band says, “Writing ‘The Prize’ was magical—it felt like the missing piece that tied the entire album together. It’s a reminder that you’re the prize, which is easy to forget sometimes.”

With glowing reviews from outlets like The Guardian, NME, and DIY, Prima Queen’s live shows have become essential viewing, from Glastonbury to SXSW. Their heartfelt storytelling and effervescent melodies shine in this latest release, positioning them as a band to watch in 2025.
